16 And it came to pass, when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death, 17 that he told her all his heart, and said to her, “No razor has ever come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.” Judges 16:16-17

Today’s anchor scripture is taken from the Biblical story of Samson and Delilah.  Samson had fallen in love with a Philistine woman called Delilah, who had connived with her country men to find out the source of Samson’s great strength!  Bible records that time and time again she had tried to con him into telling her the source of his strength but somehow he managed to keep his secret.  And it came to pass our scripture says, that she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death.

This woman had learnt a secret that could guarantee anyone an answer to prayers!  She had learnt the secret of persistence!  As the year draws to a close, do you still have unanswered prayers?  Unfulfilled dreams?  Unmet resolutions?  I want to encourage you to get more persistent.  Delilah pestered Samson DAILY with her words, and pressed him.

You too need to take a cue from her and bombard heaven daily with your words.  Pray to God and confess His words out loud!  Do not let heaven have a breather!  Every second.  Every minute.  Pester heaven with your prayers and confessions! Be like the widow who nagged the unjust judge until he heard her cries!  Delilah, an unbeliever.  Someone unconnected with the covenant, understood the principle of persistence and got what she desired – how much more we who are children of the most high King?

As I meditated on this issue of persistence, the scripture that says knock and the door will be opened unto you came alive in my mind.  How many of us knock on a door only once?  That will be a very rare occurrence.  Most times, a knock on a door consists of hitting the door about three times.  In the same way, heaven doesn’t expect you to ask just once!  Sometimes once is not enough!  If you need it desperately, you need to be persistent! You need to ask and keep asking, knock and keep knocking; and seek and keep seeking!

We have about 8 weeks to the end of the year!  Make these weeks count!  Bombard heaven with your prayers and praise!  God will hear you in Jesus name!

Prayer:

Father in the name of Jesus.  Thank you for your word.  Give us the grace to stay steadfast in prayers! Take all the glory Almighty God, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed!
