Suggested Reading (Judges 17:6)
In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.

In recent times, I have noticed an increase in the number of Believers who tell me that part of their life’s philosophy is ‘do whatever makes you happy’. On the face of it, this does not seem like such a bad thing – afterall, we are not supposed to be people pleasers either. The issue with this philosophy is that we enthrone ourselves as King.

When we give our lives over to Jesus, the Bible makes it clear that we have gained citizenship of a Kingdom – the Kingdom of God. Every Kingdom has one King. In the Kingdom of God, the king is God and not self! Doing the things that please you means that you are enthroning yourself as King over your kingdom – an act that has never ended well for anyone – ask the devil or ask the Children of Israel.

In our anchor scripture, the absence of one King generated an orchestration of chaos in the land of Israel with everyone doing whatever they thought was right. Israel ended up falling prey to their enemies for years as a result! When we dethrone God and enthrone self, we are not only committing Idolatry, we are setting ourselves in battle array against the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords; the God of all the armies of the world – Doesn’t sound like a good idea to me! Who calls the shots in your life? Who determines what you do or don’t do? You? Or God? If you make and take decisions without recourse to God, you may need to repent and dethrone self. Let God be King, He does a better job at it than you ever can!

Dear God, thank you for your word today. I repent for all the times that I did whatever I felt like doing without any recourse to you! Please be king over my life and continue to take all the glory Almighty God in Jesus mighty name.
