11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. Exodus 17:11-13

The last day, we dealt with, using this same scripture, the keys to winning life’s battles.  We spoke about continuous praise, and the power of our allies.  This morning, with this same scripture, we will be speaking about another very potent principle.

As I meditated on this scripture, something came across very strong to me.  There was a battle.  While Moses engaged in spiritual warfare, he still sent Joshua to physically fight the Amaleks!  In life, there are two concurrent realms – the spiritual, and the physical!  Although we are not of this world, Bible makes it clear that we are in this world!  It will amount to amazing foolishness for us to focus on only one of these realms and ignore the other.

A student who has exams and fails to prepare but relies on the power of God to pass those exams will most likely fail!  That would have been Moses praying without sending Joshua out to actually fight the Amalekites!  Sometimes, as Christians, we miss it!

We leave for God what He expects us to do!  I watched a Christian Talent hunt recently and one of the contestant performed really badly.  When she was interviewed, she spoke about knowing that God wanted her to sing and if possible win the competition!  It was obvious that she didn’t prepare!  She probably prayed and fasted but did not rehearse!  She was like Moses lifting up his hand without Joshua going to fight the battle!

There are yet those who send out Joshua to fight battles and neglect the part of Moses.  How do we explain students who read and read  and read and yet fail?  How do you expect people who go to the best hospitals for their surgeries and yet die?  How do you explain away the fact that people who are talented and gifted still do not make it far in life?

The point today’s devotional seeks to re-emphasize is this: there are two realms – the Spiritual and the physical!  While we admit that the spiritual is even more important than the physical, we must not neglect either of them, not even the less important physical.

While the Christian prays, he should study, see a good doctor, prepare for that presentation, make himself more marketable, improve himself or do whatever else in the physical he needs to do!  No matter how holy and prayerful you are, you are not going to get a job if you don’t improve yourself by studying and adding value?

Some of us have not read a single book to improve ourselves in the last 2 years and we wonder why we are not getting good breaks?  On the other hand, no matter how brilliant and talented you are, if God’s favour is not upon you, you will continue to struggle to pass that examination!  There are 2 realms in life – you must not neglect either!

May God help us all!

Prayer:

Father in the name of Jesus.  Thank you for your word.  Give us the grace to do our part even as you do yours! Take all the glory Almighty God, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed!

Speak to you again soon!
